The FVD® system generates in excess of 2.5 million records per day. All of this historic data is stored in a large data warehouse called the CongestionIndex ™ which now has over a half billion records. The system includes pre-calculations for the most common queries and so that even tasks that aggregate many millions of records can be returned in seconds.

Speed Readings: Individual GPS readings matched to road segments showing speed, date and time. Readings split into 4 vehicle categories (CAR, HGV, BUS, LGV).
Roads and regions: Tables relating individual segments showing name, latitude, longitude, length, postcode, geometry road class, speed limit, freeflow speed which can be aggregated in many ways such as an ordered route (e.g.M4 East) or a road link (e.g.M4 J30-J31) or a region (e.g.all roads in London).
Calendar: Tables relating various day/time characteristics to allow the individual GPS readings to be analysed by 5 minutes or larger bins (e.g.AM peak) or day types (e.g. Monday, Tuesday, Bank Holiday). |
